ValenTina

Mixed media valentine
This is ValenTina.
She appeared in my workspace this week.
Full of love, and music, and dancing,
and lots of smiles and kisses.
She may not be the most prim and proper of
lovely hearts, but she is sincere.
She’s wrinkled and gray around the edges
and has wobbly knees and big feet.
But she’s also wise,
and agile, knows just when to show up,
and stays forever.
What most folks don’t know about
ValenTina is that she would still
be hiding in the corners
if not for the love of one particular person.
He loves her creator and showers her with that love daily,
even when he is tired and exhausted
and has given so much love to so many others.
ValenTina doesn’t think he knows just how much
his love makes a difference.

This true love has given her creator
the space to spread her wings and grow.
It’s such a beautiful thing…

So she came to life this week,
in a flurry of cardboard and tissue paper, glue and wire,
paint and tape, waltzing off the work bench
and posing for a photo shoot.
There was some concern that no eyes or ears appeared,
but I was assured that the heart sees and knows
in ways that are beyond our understanding.
I’m so glad she showed up
to help me send this special message to the love of my life.
