Picture of a Picture

This is the very first photo I took with my own camera, at age 10. And that is my first camera in the foreground which I have recently shown you in an earlier post.

The two men are my dad (on the left), and my grandfather (right). Grandpa was and still is my inspiration when it comes to photography. He gave me this camera and taught me how to use it.  I realize how fortunate I was to have such a great teacher.

In this photo, my dad and grandpa have been working on an addition to our home and stepped outside, perhaps to leave and go get more supplies or fix someone’s furnace. I just know that one of them said, “Here, take our picture.”

I think I’ve been hooked on this for a very long time.

  1. Deb this is so cool to have the first picture that you remember taking, and how awesome to have had someone who really taught you such a wonderful skill! Thanks so much for sharing this!

  2. Deb – what a wonderful story and captured memory! As one who came to photography relatively late in life, you are blessed to have had this art form as part of your life for such a long time. And to have shared that love with your grandfather. How appropriate that your fist photograph was of him and your Dad. What a special family bond it must have created.

  3. This is such a sweet story. How lucky for you to have this photo and remember it. How lucky to have a grandpa to teach you about photos and loving them.

I still have my camera packed away but actually have no idea what my first photo was or even have any photos from that time. Would love to see some now though.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
