The Gift in Every Day

Have you ever had someone send you a note or card that was just the right thing for you at that time? I’m talking about one of those times when you were given the exact word of encouragement or support, and it just brought tears to your eyes or made you laugh uncontrollably.  You know what I’m talking about.

Years ago a friend sent me such a card, and it included the saying that is on this photo. This was when there were no cell phones and long distance calls were done on a limited basis. Fax machines were the new thing for sending information quickly, using that rolled up paper that soon faded.  When you wanted to say something to a friend you sent them a letter by the regular mail. Not very many people were using email or even knew what it was.

That card stayed in my possession for a long time because it spoke to what was happening in my life then; recently divorced, wondering how I was going to get my life together, feeling really down, you get the idea.  The message is about changing your point of view, seeing life differently, choosing to look at it from a different angle…rather than trying to run away from reality.

Fast forward to now, and the message is still important to me but for totally different reasons. This time it came to me as a “spin off” of my One Little Word, Gift.  I’m on a quest to find the Gift in Every Day.  This is my way of looking for the best blessing of the day, the thing or event that most stretches me to grow, even if it’s something I don’t necessarily like.

If you have a favorite card or letter like I’ve mentioned here, consider bringing it out and reading it again. See how it affects you now, and reflect on how you have grown or changed. Are you where you want to be, or do you need to look at life through new eyes?

Thanks for sharing this part of my journey!
